What We Can Do for YOU

RESEARCH ASSISTANCE

The library offers research consultations for you and your students. We provide reference services through e-mail, chat, phone, and Zoom by appointment.

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION

Librarians are available to offer library instruction sessions (teaching your students how to use library resources) via various delivery options, including sessions in the library on the Crete campus, Zoom virtual meetings, or visits to the Lincoln and Omaha campuses.

We can also create course-specific library guides and connect students to course specific resources. Here is a guide from a Japanese Cultures course as an example.

Librarians can serve as an embedded librarian in courses using Canvas where we can answer research questions and upload resources.

For more information and to request instruction, please contact library@doane.edu or your liaison librarian listed above.

LOCATING SOURCE MATERIALS

We are able to assist you in locating freely available and licensed materials for use in your courses. These materials can serve as course readings, textbook replacements, or instructional materials and range from journal articles to ebooks and streaming video. See the Find Library Resources page for more information on locating licensed materials, including streaming video, in the library. Use the Find Open Access Resources page for suggested places to find open education materials. Contact library@doane.edu or your liaison librarian for help!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MATERIALS

Looking to freshen up or revitalize your teaching? The library provides a university-wide subscription to The Teaching Professor for you to use. This weekly publication shares ideas on teaching techniques, the classroom environment, and grading as well as resources such as assignments of note and tips on improving syllabi. It's accessible on any Doane campus, however, you'll need to create an account to access it off-campus. Contact Jayne Germer if you have any questions about this resource.

Although the library's subscription to the Chronicle of Higher Education is in print, we do have an account for online access to the publication. Contact library@doane.edu to find out how to access this publication online.

The library also is excited to offer a complimentary subscription to the New York Times, which you and your students can access anywhere once you've set up an account with your university email address. Instructions for creating an account on in this guide about the NY Times subscription.

Finally, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning has a good collection of up-to-date books concerning higher education pedagogy, which they've made available to all Doane faculty by placing them in our Reserve section. You are welcome to browse the shelves and check out materials in this collection.
