Perkins Library Fall 2020 Operations

Research Guides in Canvas

Research guides can now be embedded directly into your Canvas course shells!

The document below contains instructions for adding a research guide to a Module or a Page in your Canvas Course:

Don't have a research guide for your course? Not sure which research guide to use? Contact your liaison librarian for help!

Library Instruction

Librarians are available for library instruction in your usual classroom or via Zoom.

The Library Classroom is too small to safely accommodate most class sections.

Contact your liaison librarian to set up a session!

Canvas Modules
Your librarians have created a number of Library and Information Literacy modules for your Canvas courses! Search "Doane Library" in Canvas Commons to find them.

Course Reserves

Perkins Library strongly encourages you to consider the items you may need to put on course reserve now.

Making materials available electronically will support your students, regardless of course modality or if they fall ill. To begin discussing plans for your course reserves, please contact Holly Baber at

As you consider the materials you would like to put on reserve:

  • The library may be able to find electronic versions of the things you normally use.
  • Your liaison librarian can help you find electronic alternatives.
  • Small portions of materials may be temporarily placed in your Canvas course shell under Fair Use guidelines.
  • If physical course reserves are the only possible option, Perkins Library will provide gloves to wear while students use the item. Library staff will also wash their hands before handling the item. Because they are high-circulation materials, these items cannot be sanitized or quarantined. Students will be advised to use these items at their own risk. Physical reserves will no longer be accessible to students if Perkins Library closes.
