APA Style Overview

American Psychological Association (APA) Style is most commonly used within the social and behavioral sciences, which includes education.  When using APA Style for your writing, briefly identify sources cited in the text of your paper (the in-text citation), and then provide complete reference source information in a list of References at the end of the paper.

Your citations should follow the seventh edition of the APA Style. Below are links to other helpful online resources for APA style:

• APA Style Official Website
  Provides guidelines on style and grammar. You can also download several handy PDF guides, including a Quick Reference Guide to the most common types of citation.

• APA Style Common Reference Examples Guide
  This guide contains examples of common types of APA Style references. Section numbers indicate where to find the examples in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.). Also see the "Quick Reference Examples" pages on the APA Style website for more examples (see next link).

• Quick Reference Examples

  Examples of references and in-text citations, as well as information on paper format, grammar, and style.

• APA Style Blog
  This is a fantastic resource run by a group of experts that work with APA Style every day. It is the official companion to the Publication Manual, and provides answers to all sorts of questions about the application of APA Style.

• Purdue OWL 
  You can get great help writing citations in APA from Purdue University's Online Writing Lab.

The Doane library recommends the following bibliographic managers to keep track of your references as you progress through your research:

• Zotero -- Another free app to cite and organize your research, but with only 300MB of free space for saving documents.
• Mendeley -- This is a free citation and resource manager. You can download documents with 2GB of free space.
