Applied and Environmental Microbiology publishes study results that make significant contributions to applied microbial research, basic microbial ecology research, and genetic and molecular investigations of microbial topics of practical value.

BioScience includes articles about research findings and techniques, advances in biology education, professionally written feature articles about the latest frontiers in biology, discussions of professional issues, and more.

Clinical Microbiology Reviews analyzes the latest developments in clinical microbiology and immunology. Key topics include pathogenic mechanisms, individual and groups of microbial pathogens, clinical and laboratory aspects of newly recognized and reemerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial agents and their applications, and diagnostic laboratory technologies.

From 2002 through 2015, EC published findings from basic research studies of simple eukaryotic microorganisms such as yeasts, filamentous fungi, parasitic protozoa, ciliates, social amoebae, algae, and other protists. EC reported basic research studies involving genetic, genomic, biochemical, molecular, and cell biological analyses, virulence studies of host-pathogen interactions, and population genetics and evolutionary/phylogenetic studies of eukaryotic microbes.

Journal of Virology explores the nature of viruses, reporting important new discoveries and pointing to new directions in research. Original research articles cover the viruses of animals, archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and protozoa.

Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews® explores the significance and the interrelationships of the latest discoveries that build our understanding of bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, and other higher eukaryotes.

Molecular and Cellular Biology seeks technically rigorous, mechanistic studies that provide significant advances in the areas of gene expression and genome organization, cellular morphology and function, molecular metabolism, cellular trafficking, and signal transduction. The journal is also interested in studies that investigate molecular, cellular, and systemic host responses to pathogenic agents in chronic diseases and conditions.

mSphere is a multidisciplinary open-access journal that publishes high-quality work that makes fundamental contributions to any of the immense range of fields within the microbial sciences.
