Dr. Dan Clanton and a team including Wendy Huntsmann (DEI) and three students (Litzy Lima, Ashlee Palimo'o, and Evan Rocha) traveled to the Interfaith Leadership Summit, sponsored by Interfaith America. Our Doane team spent three days in Chicago learning new skills to facilitate interfaith collaboration and pedagogies, as well as making connections with other faculty, staff, and students.

Andrew Feyes

Andrew FeyesProfessional Service - October 2024 

Dr. Andrew Feyes served the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association as an adjudicator at the NSBA State Marching Band Contest. At this event, Feyes provided critical feedback to over 20 high school marching bands from across the state of Nebraska.

Professional Service - October 2024 

Dr. Feyes served as a guest clinician and adjudicator at the Central States Marching Festival hosted by Kansas State University. At this event Feyes led clinics, adjudicated performances, and provided post-performance video critiques with many of the over 40 high school marching bands in attendance from Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

Professional Service - March 2025

Dr. Feyes assisted in the organization and execution of the Nebraska Music Education Association's Collegiate Hill Day where 20 Doane University Music Education Students learned how to communicate and advocate with Nebraska State Senators. This was done in part with Dr. Feyes' role as the Director of Collegiate Affairs for the Nebraska Music Education Association where he oversees all Collegiate Music Education Chapters in the state.

Peggy Hart, Associate Professor of Math & Data Analytics, served as a judge at the First National Bank of Omaha Datathon on November 14, 2024. Twenty teams of graduate and undergraduate students from Creighton University, Doane University, and University of Nebraska-Omaha competed.

Rachel Jank

Rachel JankProfessional Service - January 2025

Rachel facilitated a workshop at ESU 10 for the ELA Cadre, guiding teachers through the research-based best-practices of the College, Career, Community Writer's Program. The workshop focused on reading, writing, and literacy, connected to the Nebraska Writing Project practices of teacher collaboration and professional expertise sharing.

Russ Souchek

Russ SouchekProfessional Service - July 2024 

Russ Souchek, Professor of Environmental Science, has been elected to a three year term as President of the Nebraska Wildlife Federation. NEWF is one of 50 state affiliates of the National Wildlife Federation. The National Wildlife Federation is the United States' largest private, nonprofit conservation education and advocacy organization.

Professional Service - February 2025

Dr. Russ Souchek, Professor of Environmental Science, is a selected participant in the Pathways Towards Sustainability Accreditation Working Group. This is a multi-year initiative of the Global Council for Science and the Environment. As part of the process he was invited to attend the invitation-only NSF-funded workshop on “Key Competencies and Best Practices for Sustainability Degree Programs” at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The goal of this meeting was to finalize development of standards related to accreditation in sustainability. These competencies are used as program-level accreditation standards for sustainability and sustainability-related programs in higher education. The standards will provide colleges and universities with the opportunity to become accredited in the employment-ready area of Sustainability Education.

Blake Tobey

Blake TobeyProfessional Service - September 2024

Blake Tobey presented at Mourning Hope's annual child and teen Camp Erin, a free a free bereavement camp for youth ages 6-17 grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. The session, titled "Improvising Grief", implemented research-based theatrical skills and games that can address and manage emotions like sadness and grief. Each session was tailored to groups of students ages 6-8, 9-11, and 12-15. Through breathing exercises, grounding exercises, and improvisational theatre games, Tobey taught students how they could use these exercises at home and at school.

Professional Service - January 2025

Blake Tobey was selected to present a professional development session at the 2025 Nebraska Thespian Festival in Omaha, Nebraska. The session, titled "Just Kiss! - A Crash Course on Intimacy Choreography for High School Theatre Programs", introduced theatre directors to industry-standard tools used to safely and ethically stage intimacy with high school performers.

J.B. Tyson

JB TysonProfessional Service - April 2025

J.B. Tyson in conjunction with Next Generation Storytellers acted as mentor to Boy's Town students in early April. He worked along side students and other industry professionals who helped the students learn what it takes to create a film in a real world and professional setting. Two films were shot that the students wrote and directed with both films shot entirely in Omaha, NE. After post-production, both films will be submitted to film festivals. Students will also receive a credit on IMDb and will be able to put their practical experience on their CV. Next Generation Storytellers is a organization that amplify the voices of young creators by providing access to transformative storytelling opportunities. Through immersive programs and guidance from industry professionals, they empower students from underrepresented communities to explore their unique perspectives, develop their creative potential, and share their stories with the world.

Scott Vicroy

Professional Service - October | November | March | June 2024-25

Scott Vicroy, Doane Jazz Band director, will be performing in the pit orchestras for touring Broadway shows, “Back To The Future” at the Lied Center in Lincoln 10/8-10/13, “Funny Girl” 11/12-11/17, “Some Like It Hot” 3/25-3/30, and “MJ The Musical “ 6/10-6/15 at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha.

Kathleen Zumpfe

Kathleen ZumpfeProfessional Service - April 2025

Kathleen Rathje Zumpfe represented Doane University at the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the Marketing Educators Association. MEA is the premier international organization for faculty development of the marketing professoriate. The organization’s mission is to provide worldwide leadership in promoting the development and sharing of scholarship that enhances marketing education and advances marketing knowledge and practice. Zumpfe is an Associate Professor of Practice in the College of Business.
