School Counseling

This guide is developed to support the research of students enrolled in Doane University's School Counseling program.

Search the Catalog

To find specific books on your topic, use the search box below to search the library's catalog.  When searching in the catalog, use short words and phrases; long sentences don't work very well. Use quotes to search for an exact phrase and use Boolean Operators such as AND, OR, and () to help the system search for your string more efficiently.

Example searches:

"school counseling" AND interventions

counseling AND research

counseling AND research AND methodology

counseling AND (research OR study)

Library Borrowing Policies

Books owned by the Doane library can be borrowed for 8 weeks by Doane students. You can renew them unlimited times unless another user requests the book.

Getting Books from Crete Campus

When you find a print book in the library catalog simply click on the Place a Hold button in the Access Options box, then select a pick up location. If you cannot come to the library in Crete, we can arrange for the books to be available for pick up on the Lincoln campus in the Fred Brown Building.

Ebooks can be accessed with the View eBook link. (You will need to login with your Doane credentials to access ebooks from off-campus.)

Borrow Books from Other Libraries

What if you don't find books on your topic in the Doane Library? No worries! You can request books from other libraries throughout the United States via a service called Interlibrary Loan. The library requests the book for you and then you get to use it for the time allowed by the lending library. Once you're finished, we'll return it for you. This service costs you NOTHING (except the time to have the book sent to Doane)!

To find books in other libraries in the catalog:

  1. Select Libraries Worldwide in the Held By Library filter.
  2. Search your topic, author, title, etc.
  3. Click on a book you're interested in.
  4. Click on the Request Item via Interlibrary Loan link in the Access Options box (see example below). You'll be prompted to login with your Doane credentials.
  5. Review the information and select a pick-up location. (If you don't select the Lincoln pick-up location, the book will remain in Crete until it's returned to the lender.)
  6. Click Submit. You will be notified when the item is available for pick-up.
